About St John's
School...

The current St John’s Primary School was opened in 1989 when children and staff moved from the original school on
Mitre Road. The original St John’s was built in 1857. The new school was officially opened by the Right Reverend
Stanley Booth Clibborn, the Bishop of Manchester on September 23rd 1991.

The population of Longsight has changed over the years and currently there are about one third of the pupils from a
Pakistani heritage, one third from a Bangladeshi heritage, the remaining children coming from a variety of other
backgrounds, including Somalian and Arabic. The majority of our 365 pupils are Muslim and come from an area of
social and economic disadvantage.

“The school is an excellent example of an inclusive school in which pupils, parents, staff and governors of varying
religions, cultures and races work together successfully”
John Wilson – Section 48 Inspection January 09
A pupil's view of St John's School

" In St John's School we have lots of fun. We have earned the gold and silver healthy school award. We raised
£391.78 in our last fundraising event for charity - we paid to wear non uniform.

We have many teachers - they are all nice. They help us so much. We enjoy our teachers because they look after
us. We all have friends and play together. We have a rota for groups to play football. We play without bullying
people - everyone can play together.
